ISSP UL is looking for senior microfluidics scientist for a position with the Micro and nanodevices laboratory. Laboratory focuses on research of:

  •     Organ on chips. Our expertise is to develop PDMS-free devices using cleanroom and soon to be established microfluidics pilot line with injection molder
  •     Cancer diagnostic tool development for biomarker detection such as extracellular vesicles and proteins

Therefore, we are looking for candidates with a strong track-record in organ on chip and/or biomarker diagnostics with background in microfabrication and device design. Group consists of 1 post-docs and several graduate and an undergraduate students.

Most of the work is done in Nanotechnology center 600 m2 ISO 9001 accredited cleanroom facilities allowing microfluidic device fabrication, characterisation and functional testing. Most of our projects are realised in close collaboration with our partners - Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre, which ensures the biological experiments with the fabricated devices, KTH and other pan-European partners.

Job responsibilities

  •     Manage microfluidic projects and advance research in the field
  •     Be responsible for the budget, the planning, and the quality of the projects in the microfluidics;
  •     Present the work at conferences and publish in leading international journals
  •     Acquire national and international financial support to expand the group;
  •     Actively collaborate with other research groups at institute and Latvia and develop international collaborations
  •     Advance the microfluidic device designs and fabrication methods

Job requirements

Essential

  •     PhD in a field related to use of and fabrication of microfluidic devices and uses of these devices;
  •     Strong research background in microfluidics methods, design, and fabrication;
  •     Experience of 2D and 3D CAD Design for the generation of designs, ideally Solidworks, AutoCAD, Klayout
  •     Experience in mentoring students of BSc, MSc or PhD level
  •     An ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional group environment;
  •     Ability to manage multiple assignments effectively in a quickly evolving environment;
  •     Excellent communication, presentation and social skills;
  •     Excellent command of English

Desirable

  •     Previous experience in scientific project writing and management will be considered as an advantage
  •     Previous experience in industry/start-ups will be considered as an advantage
