Trešdien, 22.maijā plkst. 14.30, Ķengaraga ielā 8, 2.stāva zālē Prof. A. Afanasjev University of Mississippi (USA)"Theoretical nuclear physics in the age of high performance computing"

The advent of powerfull parallel computers changes the face of theoretical nuclear physics and allows to address the problems which were not feasible in the past. In particular, they lead to a systematic improvement in our ability to describe the behaviour of matter at extreme conditions. I will describe the pivotal role of high performance computing in our understanding of the physics of atomic nuclei and their role in astrophysics/nuclear astrophysics. The limits of existence of atomic nuclei, supernovae explosions, the properties of the crust of neutron stars, nuclear fission and rotation of atomic nuclei will serve as the examples of the role of high performancecomputing. The presentation will be aimed at general physics audience.
