On January 19, 2022, at 1 pm, the joint scientific seminar "Ethics of Science" of the Institute of Solid State Physics of the University of Latvia and the Doctoral School of the University of Latvia "Functional Materials and Nanotechnologies" will take place.
Following topics will be included in the seminar:
- Ethical aspects of research planning and implementation
- Ethics of scientific publishing
- Scientist and society: ethics of scientific communication.
The lecture will be given by the Assoc. prof. Signe Mežinska. She holds a Master's degree in Philosophy (LU), an MSc in Bioethics (Union Graduate College, USA) and a Doctor of Sociology in Sociology of Health and Disease (RSU). Since 2016, she has also been a leading researcher at the Institute of Clinical and Preventive Medicine of the University of Latvia.
Research interests - ethics of science, ethics of biomedical research, ethics of reproduction, ethical aspects of biotechnology, doctor-patient relations, ethical aspects of drug advertising, availability of medicines.
Signe Mežinska is the Deputy Chairwoman of the UNESCO International Bioethics Committee, the Chairwoman of the Ethics Committee for Life and Medical Sciences of the University of Latvia, and a member of the Latvian Central Medical Ethics Committee. She is active as an ethics expert for the European Commission's H2020 projects and a WHO ethics expert.
