The open meeting of the Doctoral Council for Physics and Astronomy of the University of Latvia scheduled for Friday19th of May, at 15.00 at the conference room of UL Institute of Solid State Physics (Ķengaraga 8) as well as remotely on the online platform BigBlueButton, where the doctoral thesis for the degree of Doctor of Science (Ph.D) in Natural Sciences will be defended by Aleksandrs Platoņenko.

The topic of the thesis: "Radiācijas punktveida defektu modelēšana un raksturošana α-Al2O3 un MgAl2O4 kristālos no pirmajiem principiem" ("First principles modelling and characterization of radiation point defects in α-Al2O3 and MgAl2O4 crystals"), scientific supervisor Dr. rer. nat. Deniss Grjaznovs.
