Terms drawn up by the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) and approved by the government stipulate that Latvia’s science policy will continue to be implemented and leadership and capacity will be strengthened with the €14.4 million support of European Union (EU) funds over the next few years. These activities aim to develop international collaboration within Latvian research, more closely integrate it into international research consortiums, and strengthen global competitiveness.
The MES, in collaboration with the Latvian Council of Science and with the support of EU funds, will continue to strengthen both national and international collaboration in research, development and innovations. This will result in a unified concept for the strategic planning, coordinated implementation and effective management of Latvian science policy, including by promoting strategic communication with scientific institutions, universities, businesses and other interested parties, and society at large.
The EU fund support programme will further improvements to the research and development systems of scientific institutions, strengthening management and analytical capacity of research and development systems, particularly when it comes to strategic planning and smart specialisation strategy management. The investment programme will contribute to overall state figures, attracting financing of up to 1.5% of GDP.
