The Institute of Solid State Physics (ISSP) has launched Smart Windows for Zero Energy Buildings (SWEB) – a new initiative to establish a high-quality researcher and expert team by merging chromogenic Smart Windows materials and complementary competencies at ISSP and bridging the gap between research and technology transfer, as well as to contribute to the efficient and sustainable use of energy.
The goals of the project are to develop world-leading research on functional materials and their SWEB applications, to advance teaching capacity and to foster institutional governance changes towards excellence and sustainability.
The ISSP believes that the SWEB project will have a positive impact on research excellence, visibility, and the attractiveness of ISSP and Latvia in general, thus enhancing participation in the European Research Area (ERA). The ISSP Thin Film laboratory (TFL) is committed to providing the ERA team led by outstanding researcher Dr.Smagul Karazhanov with the resources and support necessary to ensure the success of the SWEB project. To this end, the TFL, led by Prof. Dr.Juris Purans, has assembled a core team of experts in order to successfully carry out the project over five years.
