So far, the European Union’s support programme for the commercialisation of research results has supported 101 projects for the evaluation of scientific technologies and the development of commercialisation strategies, while 54 projects support further technological development and the introduction of commercialisation activities. All projects are predominantly in the field of engineering and natural sciences.
“The EU support programme for the commercialization of research results has served as a stepping stone for the development of scientific discoveries of Latvia and their conversion into commercially successful projects,” says Māris Kromāns, Head of the Scientific Commercialization Department of the LIAA.
Kaspars Pudžs, lead researcher at the Laboratory of Organic Materials at our Institute confirms: “The commercialisation project programme provides a fantastic opportunity to develop technologies. Although at times the administrative process of projects, such as the conditions of procurement procedures, does not keep pace with the rapid changes in the world of technology.
His colleague and the institute’s business consultant Ģirts Ozoliņš also mentions aspects of precaution and various challenges, as well as the importance of commercialization and attraction of business professionals already at the initial stage of the project.
