Online community The Raccoons empowers students who are eager to learn by providing an environment for them to explore, learn, build, and create. With the sudden changes, our world is facing, now it is more important than ever to facilitate a general knowledge of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) skills, as those are increasingly important to almost all fields.

The Raccoons team has decided to bring an online experience aimed at youngsters with any level of experience and tries to foster an environment for curiosity towards tech and exploration by organizing workshops around STEM and technology sector, hosting hackathons, and providing online content to learn more about the variety of tech fields.

With the initiative of The Raccoons STEM lecture series are running with the aim to showcase the variety of exciting and interesting professions in tech and engineering.

The 6th STEM lecture "Physics and Photonics" tells about research in physics, photonics and astronomy, which are at the very epicentre of modern innovation. Often these studies even indirectly come down to an innovative result, which is useful in the development of new technically more complex products.

Lightspace Technologies R&D engineer Sandra Balode talks about optometry in the story, while Martin Razuks-Ebels, head of TimeTag.Space, talks about astronomy solutions.

Research in physics and new materials is presented by Gatis Mozolevskis, Head of our Institute's Prototypation Laboratory, and leading researcher Roberts Rimša.

In this lecture it is possible to learn more about institutes and their research, as well as companies and start-ups who work close to each other to develop innovative solutions in physics, astronomy and photonics.
