In April, it will be a year since ISSP UL has become a member of European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC).

During this year, because of the restrictions to meet face-to-face, an hour-long EPIC virtual tour at the institute was organized, during which the consortium members and other interested parties, in a comfortable environment, could get acquainted with ISSP UL and its opportunities. Actually, you can come on a tour right away - here. During the tour, the head of the Spectroscopy Laboratory, Dr. Anatolijs Šarakovskis demonstrated the equipment and described research directions of the laboratory. In turn, the director Dr. Mārtiņš Rutkis answered the questions of the attractive moderator Jose Pozo about the Institute's cooperation with industry and offers to EPIC members. After the active discussion, two prototypes created at the institute were demonstrated: New generation wavefront sensor and Thermoelectric radiation sensor. The excursion was attended by around 50 participants from different countries and continents.

Whereas ISSP UL’s MATERIZE unit participated in PHOTONICS+ Virtual Exhibition and Conference. The event was organized in partnership with EPIC and was a new, efficient networking event for the photonics industry. The innovative live, digital event brought stakeholders in the photonics industry together with relevant user areas.

More than 5,000 online visitors became part of the community in an inspiring and efficient way: more than 280 technology and application presentations and 1:1 video chats enabled direct contact that facilitates the initiation of new cooperation opportunities and projects. 30 top keynote speakers gave lectures about current topics relating to photonics. About 300 exhibitors from 20 countries participated in this event.

EPIC is the industry association with the largest network maintaining the European photonics database. Its members encompass the entire value chain from LED lighting, photovoltaic solar energy, photonics integrated circuits, optical components, lasers, sensors, imaging, displays, projectors, optic fiber, and other photonic related technologies.

The consortium fosters a vibrant photonics ecosystem by maintaining a strong network and acting as a catalyst and facilitator for technological and commercial advancement. EPIC puts its extensive network and experience to the benefit of its membership to support companies accelerate their growth and technological advancements, and reaching out to emerging photonics markets.
