Scientific evaluation of individual projects submitted to the Latvian Science Council’s open call (announced on September 7, 2020) for the projects in the field of fundamental and applied research has been concluded and there are 107 projects in 6 groups to be funded. Total of 348 project applications had been received and 342 of them were submitted for further scientific evaluation by September 28, 2020.

5 of the winner projects come from the researchers of ISSP UL (each project’s funding 100 389 EUR):
1) “Research and computing of new improved perovskite for energy applications” by Jurijs Mastrikovs;
2) “Investigation of radiation damage in new garnet scintillators for high energy physics and medical needs” by Vladimirs Pankratovs;
3) “Electrocaloric effect in strong fields - potential of lead-free ferroelectrics for practical applications” by Andris Šternbergs;
4) “Improvement of time- and polarization- dependent Kerr spectroscopy” by Mārtiņš Rutkis;
5) “Rare earth based oxyhydride thin films for photochromic applications” by Mārtiņš Zubkins
