On 15 September 2020, the European Space Agency (ESA) signed a contract worth € 129.4 million for the first ESA mission to protect the planet, the Hera. The aim of the project is to study the effectiveness of the impact of the impact in order to prevent the potential threat of asteroids to humanity in the future.

The Latvian company SIA “Eventech” together with international partners has developed a specialized time measurement module for this large-scale project, which measures the flight time of light in space. The participation of a Latvian company in this world-class mission is possible thanks to the investments of the Ministry of Education and Science in the ESA National Plan for European Cooperation, within the framework of which this technology was developed.

“Eventech” is a new company of the Latvian-based science commercialization and acceleration platform “Commercialization Reactor”. Following a successful partnership with ESA in 2017, the company signed an agreement with the British space technology company Neptec to develop part of the Luna 27 spacecraft landing system.
