This year the European Physics Olympiad (EuPho) took place online due the internationally declared pandemic. At the Olympiad Latvia was represented by five young physicists led by Jānis Cīmurs, a researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry (FMOF) of the University of Latvia (UL). All of them won prizes: two silver medals, two bronze and one recognition.

Due to the global pandemic, a large number of high-level physics (Olympiad) competitions for school-age participants, including the International Physics Olympiad and the Asian Physics Olympiad, were cancelled. Thus, in 2020, EuPho was the world's top competition for school-age physics enthusiasts.

This year, EuPho took place from 20 to 26 July. The Olympiad was attended by 260 participants from 53 countries - 28 European countries and 25 non-European countries. The Olympiad was planned in such a way that it was possible to comply with the assembly restrictions set in each country. In Latvia, students solved the tasks in the Science House of the Academic Center of the University of Latvia in Torņakalns.
