Speaking to the researchers, President Levits said he appreciates the opportunity to meet Latvian and European elite scientists: ‘Your contribution to science of Latvia, Europe and the world is very important. What you discover, what you study is also significant for our country’s progress towards being a high-tech nation.
Egils Levits noted that in today’s world excellent knowledge and technology is of great value, and the ISSP UL can contribute, for example, through its fusion research because it is an environmentally friendly, CO2 – free source of energy that could solve the global energy crisis in the future.
President also expressed his conviction that ‘through its intellectual and economic contribution the ISSP sets an example for others and Latvia should continue to develop such centres of scientific excellence’.
