On September 27 the annual Researchers' Night took place across Latvia and Europe. In Latvia, it was held in more than 40 locations in and outside the capital bringing together more than 25 000 people, about 3 000 more than last year. The largest number of visitors was in Riga - more than 16 000, Cēsis - 1500, Ventspils - 1500, Daugavpils - 1400, Salaspils - 1300, Rēzekne - 1100 and Jelgava - 1000 people. This year's theme of the Researchers' Night was "Science for the Future."
The European Researchers' Night Activities Programme is funded under the framework of Horizon 2020 project NIGHTLV-2018-2019. The objective of the Project is to raise the awareness of the larger public, especially young people, about science as well as to familiarize them with the scientist’s profession.
This event was held in Latvia for the 14th time. By having this event, Latvia joined the organizers of the European Researchers’ night, which featured different events in more than 300 European cities.
