Various bacterial isolates and substrates were tested for hydrogen gas productionwith test-systems constructed in our laboratory. Several of isolated bacterial strainsare suitable for biohydrogen production, and crude glycerol and lactose from cheesewhey are perspective substrates for hydrogen production in the fermentation process. To optimize the hydrogen collection method, it is necessary to study properly thehydrogen production kinetics in liquid phase and find a solution for hydrogenoversaturation. In this work hydrogen-absorbing metal were used to adsorb hydrogenmolecules from the solution to its surface, to catalyze them splitting in atomichydrogen and facilitate the diffusion of it in the metal volume. Key words: biohydrogen, fermentation process, crude glycerol, metal hydrides
