Another dynamic day at ISSP commenced with an insightful presentation on recent advancements in marine robotics and high-tech solutions for diving professionals, delivered by Dr. Fausto Ferreira from the Centre of Excellence MARBLE in Croatia. His talk showcased cutting-edge innovations that are shaping the future of underwater exploration and industrial applications.

Dr. Alfredo Martins from INESCTEC under INESTEC.OCEAN project followed with a compelling presentation on autonomous vehicles for deep-sea operations, providing valuable insights into ongoing research activities. Both presentations underscored the significance of cross-sectoral collaboration in strengthening the common European Research Area and driving technological progress.

The event continued with a roundtable discussion organized by the FeLow-D team, bringing together ISSP’s leading researchers. Dr. Aleksejs Zolotarjovs presented advancements in water quality sensors, Dr. Maira Elksne highlighted ISSP’s progress in device fabrication for microfluidics, and Dr. Boris Polyakov explored the potential applications of nanowires, emphasizing their role in fostering collaborations for upcoming Horizon Europe funding calls. Beyond scientific developments, the participants exchanged best practices on building administrative capacities to support researchers in grant acquisition and enhancing young researchers’ soft skills.

The discussions culminated in an in-depth exchange on industry engagement and strategic approaches for project proposals. As a result, partners agreed to collaborate on an upcoming Horizon Europe Innovation Action (IA) call focused on soft robotics, further strengthening research cooperation in this rapidly evolving field.

INESCTEC.OCEAN is a Horizon Europe-funded Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Ocean Research and Engineering (OR&E) in Portugal. It addresses the growing technological and scientific demands of emerging markets across a broad spectrum of blue and green economy applications.

CoE MARBLE is a Horizon Europe-funded Centre of Excellence focused on key research areas that serve as essential enablers for blue economy sectors. Its mission aligns with Croatia’s Smart Specialization Strategy, driving high-impact innovation.

This collaborative initiative highlights the power of international partnerships in advancing research and technology, paving the way for future breakthroughs in marine robotics, nanotechnology, and beyond.
